The Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 212/218 Hydraulic Flat Cam for Oldsmobile 260-455 (42-221-4) seems to be a popular choice for circle track racing. One customer reported getting 12” vacuum pressure at 800 rpm and 16” at 1200 rpm with a quadrajet carburetor on a 350 Oldsmobile engine. Another customer installed the 218/224 version of this cam in their Oldsmobile 350 with #5 heads and was able to use stock pushrods after milling the heads and using thinner head gaskets. However, there were some complaints about the durability of the cam, with one customer reporting that two intake lobes went flat within 500 miles of use. Another customer stated that the cam was not suitable for a real 455 Oldsmobile engine.
