What are the shoe-size equivalents of their S/M/L, etc. sizes?
Answer: I am a size 11. I purchased the large size. Initially they fit great but after washing and drying, they shrink, now very snug to the point I am going to try an XL. -

What's the difference between these and the 'micro crew cushion hiking' socks?
Answer: Micro is 2.5 inches shorter, I would consider the micro crew to be the short hiking boot sock and these boot socks for taller work boot -

Do these socks have a cushion on the bottom or extra padding for backpacking carrying 30lb on your back?
Answer: There is some cushion on the bottom. The toe seam killed it for hiking. You can look at new boot insoles so you aren't limited by sock choice. -

How far up the calf do these socks cover?
Answer: These will not go far enough to go past the top of the boot cuff most likely. I would recommend the over the calf style, called Mountaineering Over-the-Calf Extra Cushion by Darn Tough. -
