- Irish Moss (Sagina subulata) A hardy perennial or house plant, with dense, rounded tufts that form a soft, mossy carpet of green foliage. Small white flowers. Blooms in April and May. Use for a ground cover, between stepping stones, as a rock garden plant, or even a lawn substitute!. Plant in sun or partial shade, 6 to 12 inches apart. Grows 2 inches tall. This is also an excellent moss for bonsai! Indoors grow in a filtered light window. Keep evenly moist, not we or dry.
